LINUS
We have had the pleasure of having Linus as part of our family since May 2008. We knew when we first saw his photo on the NTBHR site that he was our kind of hound. Then when we met him in person at one of the meet-and-greets, it was confirmed that he would be the hound we would like to adopt. He fit right in during his first home visit, and the next day we welcomed him permanently into our home and the back yard, both of which he has gladly accepted to be his territory. Some things he likes include ear rubs, walks, naps, generally being nosy, visiting with other hounds at the local dog park, and being a lap dog. Some things he probably doesn’t like include us tickling the bottom of those huge paws, being told “stop it” on those rare (or not so rare) times he misbehaves, and being moved out of way so someone else can use the couch. He is an all-around great hound who we are sure loves us as much as we love him. A big thanks to NTBHR and his fosters, Patrick and Boyd, for the fine job they did in fostering and bringing Linus into our lives.
TRIXIE
Hey everyone from Basset Rescue! Just wanted to thank you so much for placing me with my new family. I couldn't have asked for anyone better myself. Being that I was still considered a "puppy" at 14 months, I felt that I should continue to live up to that age specific behavior. There were plants to chew down, hoses that needed to be trimmed and the baseboard near the front door needed a little trimming too. I now have lots of "chew toys" that are very durable and I really love them! We are taking more walks and they have taught me how to walk properly and not just lay down in the middle of the street. I think it must be dangerous to be in the middle of the street. Anyway, I have also learned to "stay" at the front door until they smile and say "come." It makes them so happy when I do what they want that I think I'll continue to make them happy. But most of all, I have the best cousin who really loves to play with me and she makes me run after her. I think she's an Australian Dingo and you should see her run!!! I can't keep up with her, but I can sure bark at her when she goes too fast. She comes over almost every weekend! Then my next door neighbor is a boxer named Sadie. That's her in the picture. She was really tired and so I just rested my head on her until she was ready to play again. We have played so hard that I think I caused her to sleep for 2 days straight! She's about 3 yrs old, so I guess she just doesn't have as much energy as me. We like to nibble on each others necks all the time. I think it scared my mom and dad the 1st time we did this. We love getting slobbery and then shaking our lips! Everyone runs!!! I can go in and out the doggy door all day and all night if I want and I have the softest bed ever! I really like "relieving" myself outside rather than on carpet or hardwood floor. My parents are really sweet to me. I will sometime go in their bedroom at 4:30 in the morning and they don't seem to get upset. They pet me and I can see their smiles in the dark! Then I go back to my bed and wait for them to get up 2 hrs later. I'm sure I will get to see some of you again at the place where they first met me. I'm so glad you chose them to be my parents! We are such a happy family. Love to all, Trixee
CHARLOTTE
To all my friends at NTBHR,
IVAN
(Ivan on the Left, Stella on the Right) Hi everyone! My name is Ivan and I've been with my new family for almost four months. I'm the younger brother of Sofie (a little girl) and Stella (another basset) and get plenty of exercise chasing both, especially if one of them has taken my favorite squeaky toy. Since I've been with my new family, I've gained a healthy 25 pounds and no longer have heart-worms. I also have the ability to open toilet seats with my nose to drink water from the toilet bowl and have learned how to open the kitchen trash and eat whatever is inside. I can also jump high enough in the air to knock a box of pizza from the kitchen counter onto the kitchen floor (I've done this twice so far!). My favorite activity, however, is sitting on a chair in front of the living room window and barking at joggers, children, mailmen, other dogs, cats, squirrels, etc . . . I lead a fairly active life for a basset but there's nothing I love better than sleeping in my parents' bed at the end of a hard day. MACEY
Hi everybody out there in NTBHR land. My name is Layla, but I used to be know as Macey on the web site. I'm still a shy little girl, but I'm getting better all the time. A lot of the noises that really used to scare me don't bother me much any more, but I'm still a little scared of the vacuum cleaner. I've found a great new home where my parents take me for rides around our neighborhood on our golf cart.
We get to stop a lot and I've met some really nice people and lots of other dogs. The people like to pet me and tell me what a sweet little girl I am. I also get free cookies from one of our neighbors when we go for a walk in the evening and I've even got to ride to the drive-inn for burgers with my new parents. I've also got a nice yard and patio to hang out on. We get to sit out on the patio in the morning after I've had breakfast and a long walk while my new parents drink coffee and read the paper. I usually just lay around and watch the world go by. I really want to thank my foster parents, Theresa and Jeff, for taking good care of me till I found a new forever home. They helped me get over those nasty old heart worms and gave me a nice place to stay.
BLANCA
My name is Blanca (I'm the beautiful blonde on the far right) and I was adopted on Aug. 6th 2008. Before that, I had a rough 3 yrs of my doggy life. Then all of a sudden, I ended up in a doggy shelter. If it wasn't for North Texas Basset Hound Rescue with giving me a 2nd chance at life, I would have been playing on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Once I was rescued, I soon was swifted off to my 2 foster family. The first was with Auntie Jan and her babies who I loved very much and then I went to live with the Wylie foster family. I could tell from the day one I was going to have the time of my life. I instantly gained foster brothers who always kept me in check and showed me the In's and Out of their household. I had to learn how to become a lady and to share everything and everyone. Immediately I won the hearts of my Wylie foster family. So they decided to make me a permanent family member. I was so excited to hear of this great news. I found my forever home with my foster family that I grew to love and trust. Thank you, North Texas Basset Hound Rescue for making me a happy Princess. Love always, Blanca. GREGORY
Heaven sent!! " Gregory" came into our lives on July 13, 2008. I first saw him during a home inspection and knew right away HE WAS THE ONE!!! We bonded instantly and I have to say, that basset has won our hearts over! He is a very sweet and loving dog. All I can say, is that life is perfect and complete with him home. I sometimes wonder who rescued who?! Thanks again to everyone for this precious dog.
COWBOY
Cowboy was adopted by the Stoltz family on the 4th of July. What a happy addition to their family! Clarence and Troy have a new playmate, and Cowboy is riding high!
GRACIE
Hi everyone, This is Gracie, wanted to let you know that my skin is no longer itchy and my hair has all grown back in and I am one pretty girl again! I like it very much at my new home, they have real good food here, and I like all the kitty cats and my Mama and Daddy, and did I mention they have real good food here? That's me and Mocha, the queen of the kitties, in the picture. Tuesday night I got stuck in the pet door, and Daddy said he'd have to put in a bigger pet door, and Mama said no, Gracie will have to lose a couple of pounds, and is going on a diet. I bet a diet tastes good, they have real good food here. We walk twice a day and talk to the neighbors and I am a big hit with everyone because they say I am a sweetie. Oh, and I love to chase squirrels and Mama laughs and says you go girl and I never actually catch one because I'm not really a fast runner but it's fun anyway. I went out to Daddy's ranch for the first time last week, and I liked it a lot and had a good time with Daisy the ranch dog and Leo and Blackie the ranch cats. They have good food there, too. Love to Everyone, Gracie
FLASH AARRRROOOO! This is Flash man and I just wanted to send you some pictures and tell you that I’m loving my new forever home in Colleyville. My new family loves me so much. I’ve trained them pretty well too. I let them know that that doggie bed is not suitable for someone of my stature. I prefer to sleep with my family, not just on the bed, but I really need someone to hold me at night. I also let them know that dog food certainly isn’t appropriate for my diet as well. If I get hungry enough, I may nibble at it, but I really do prefer to eat what my family eats. Mamma says it’s not good for me, but I’ve figured out if I sit under the little boy’s chair, something’s bound to fall. Thank you to my foster family who took such good care of me and rescued me from that shelter. I’ll see you at the Basset Shuffle in September. Mamma’s taking me on daily walks to get my endurance up. She says I’m going to win the 10-yard dash! After all, my name is “Flash”!
The Lundsberg Family
HUCKLEBERRY HOUND Dear Foster Mama, I miss you. I still love you and I have happy dreams about you, Sadie and Collin . I love my new home a lot though. I really have these people fooled with my sad looks. They give me so many hugs and kisses. Tank tells me they are big suckers and is teaching me to get anything I want. He really is a good friend and we are together all the time. I am being good just like you told me. I’m sharing nice and going potty outside just like I promised you I would. I learned how to climb into the recliner. My favorite time is when my new mom is sitting in it, then Tank and I climb in and sit on her lap. It’s a little crowded but that’s ok. I have my own bed, but Tank and I would rather share his, so we squish together in his bed. I can’t wait for you to come visit and see how good I’m doing. My mom takes me everywhere and tells everyone about you and about NTBHR. She hopes that by people seeing how cute and wonderful I am (her words) that maybe they will be encouraged to help other Bassets that need homes. I meet new people every day and they all have to hug me and scratch my ears. We have gone to Petsmart several times. Tank and I pick out toys and sometimes mom buys them and sometimes we go just to look and make new friends. That’s a lot of fun for me. She says that she is going to teach Tank and I to walk on a tandem leash so that we can walk with her every morning and evening. That sounds like fun. She says she will walk by all the restaurants so we will have a lot to sniff in the air. All my new neighbors love me. Wesson next door is going to come over for a play date after my next vet visit. We talk through the fence all the time. He has freakishly long legs… not cute stubby ones like Tank and I. Behind us live two weenie dogs. They have short legs like us, but boy they bark a lot. Tank and I just like to sit quietly and stare at them through the fence. It drives them crazy, but we think they are funny to watch as they run back and forth barking and acting tough. We don’t even have to bark or anything… we just sit and watch. Mom giggles at our heads going back and forth, like we are watching tennis, with our ears forward and our tails wagging. My dad brought me to work today for a quick visit, to introduce me to the guys. That was cool. I met his boss, sniffed around his office and then met some of his co-workers and some customers. I was a big hit! He says maybe I can go there and spend the day with him sometime. He has a nice office and I could bring my toys and bed and hang out. His boss and all his co-workers think I’m really cute. Tank said they would like me and that he has fun when he gets to go. He gets to walk between the 5 offices and everyone has treats to share. That sounds cool! When people come to buy a new car, I get to sit in the cool office where they sign all the papers. My brother and all his friends are teaching me how to play video games. I sure wish I had thumbs. Since I don’t, they push the buttons for me. They love it when Tank and I hang out with them and they said when I have the docs permission, that I can go play touch football with them. Every morning, Tank and I ride in the car to take him to football practice. All the players say hi to me and the remember my name already. Too bad their mascot isn’t a Basset Hound. My big sister went out and bought me a new bandana and tags with my new phone number on them… now I make a big jingle when I run around. She gave me a bath and cleans my ears for me. She really is very sweet. I watch scary movies with her. She covers my eyes at the scary parts though. My Grams is the biggest sucker of all. She can’t say no to our faces. Believe me when I tell you that we can get anything from her. Mom has warned her not to give us scraps, but she sneaks us a little tiny bit when mom isn’t looking. You know how Grandma’s are. She gives Tank and I a big hug every morning! I’ve already settled into my new routine with my family. They really do love me so much. Thank you for finding them for me. My new mom says I must have the biggest dog heart in the world because I just love everyone so much. She says I was a really good boy for being so patient with Tank the first day. He didn’t know how to share his toys or his family, but I showed him and we were best friends by bedtime. I want you to know that you will always be my other mom and I will always love you. You were so good to me the way you loved me and cared for me. Just when I thought all hope was lost, you took me into your loving home, made me healthy again and then found me a family who will love me forever. Thank you! I will always save some of my big slurpy kisses for you, Sadie and Collin .
Love, Huckleberry Hound Holum
MONA
Mona was officially adopted on July 18, 2008. She has been a special blessing to our family. Mona loves her brother BamBam almost from the start. She wasn't quite sure at first, but now she lets BamBam get in her face to smell her and lick her, his way of giving her snooker kisses. She loves going outside to sun, just like any girl. She loves to play with her toys especially around 2 a.m. Thank You North Texas Basset Hound Rescue for giving us the opportunity to give Mona a Forever Home. We promise to make this the best home she has ever known.
MACK
Howdy from your foster basset hound Mack, just a little note to let you good folks know that I am one happy dawg. I go the ocean every morning with my new family and I love to get my toes wet and dig in the sand, sometimes it’s a walk in the woods but mostly the beach. The Hansen family has grandkids who I just love to hang with, chase ball, and cuddle with as you can see in the picture. Kiki is my favorite, she loves me!!! I have gained a few pounds and I feel great! I’m one lucky fella! Now if only mom would get me a friend, maybe next year when we visit Mack
ISABELLE
We adopted Cleo (formerly known as Isabelle) in February as a companion for our 4-yr old basset hound, Elvis, who had become extremely lonely since he lost his buddy (Rascal) last year which he grew up with as puppies. Cleo is a great dog and is fitting into our family really well. We have fallen in love with her and even though it’s been a slower process for Elvis; we are convinced that he likes having her here with us. It took him a while to adjust to sharing us with Cleo; but he now looks for her when he wakes up from his nap and she’s not there. They wake up every day ready to go outside and play and always in the best of moods when they come back in waiting patiently for their morning meal. Cleo is a beautiful red and white basset and she loves lying on her pillow. She also likes to take naps on the bed occasionally. Here in this picture Elvis is on the left and Cleo on the right and they are waiting patiently for a treat. We couldn’t be happier since Cleo came into our lives. Thank you NTBHR for all you do for basset hounds and for bringing Cleo into our lives. She really does complete our little family.

GRADY
Hi! My name is Grady, and I am so happy to be part of my new “forever family”. You can tell from the picture how happy I am because even though I’m in total couch-potato mode my tail is wagging (that is why it is in midair!). I joined my new family in March and it has been great. I adjusted very quickly, and now I love taking walks almost every day and get so excited when my people come home everyday! My favorite part of the day is the morning when my people-mom makes lunches for the day. She cuts off the crust for my little girl person and guess what? I get to eat them! I sit next to the dishwasher and wag my tail while she tosses the crusts in the air and I catch them! I really love bread---I even ate a WHOLE loaf of bread that my family left on the counter for a few minutes! I was quite full, but I didn’t get sick. I did try to hide the evidence (the bread bag) but that people-mom is pretty smart and she found it. She said she was just glad I didn’t eat the bag! I’m very glad to be with my new family, and I hope you will help another deserving basset hound who needs a forever home.
Dilan Hi — My name is Dusty. North Texas Basset Hound Rescue rescued me. Ed Cannady was my foster parent. North Texas Basset Hound Rescue had named me Dilan. My new parents, Ed and Jane Driscoll of I am very happy in new home. My new sister sometimes thinks she is boss, but that is okay because I am boss sometimes as well. I get to sleep in the bed with my parents every night and get lots of attention. Every night we go for a walk on a tandem leash and people stop us and say how cute we are. I get to climb on the back of the couch and look out the window and bark at anything that goes by. My sister and I have a doggy door so we spend a lot of time running around in our back yard or just laying out in the sun. I spend a lot of time on laps and licking everybody. In this picture, Pandy is on the left and I am behind her on the right. You can see what a good-looking couple we make. Pandy looks like she is the boss in this one. But we are working on that. I like having a companion and I know she will like having me for company. Some times we chase each other around the house. We are just like normal kids in any family. My new parents are very happy with me. They even sent out Adoption announcement to people. . When they took me to Dr. Sanders at Chase Oaks Animal Clinic, the pictures were up on the wall. Dr. Sanders and his crew are a great bunch of people and they were very impressed with the shape I was in. I want to thank North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. and Mr. Ed Cannady for taking me in and giving me the opportunity for a great new life. It is wonderful to know that there are such great volunteers out there that care for my breed and me. In my book, you all deserve Gold Stars. Thank you for saving me!
JASPER
Today is Jasper's one week anniversary --in a way it seems like he arrived only yesterday but in other ways it is like he has been part of the 'family' forever. He is adjusting very well--just a few accidents but all in all a very good first week! The best news is that he and Murphy are getting more accustomed to each other and I think they will be buddies before long. She no longer acts scared when they pass by each other unless he is moving quickly (which, let's face it, doesn't happen often) and there is no more hissing!!!! Jasper loves our daily walks and has made lots of two legged and four legged friends in the neighborhood. But his favorite new thing is the fact that he figured out he and leap--actually LEAP onto the sofa! I have included photos as proof --he spends most evenings there and is more than happy to share a bit of space with me and Murphy but as you can see from the photo there is not a great deal of space left over. We are all getting along very well and I am so happy that Jasper is now a part of my life! Donna NED
We have many funny stories from our first days with Ned. He literally walked through our dual fireplace and came out covered in soot. As we are ‘in training’ it is hard not to laugh at his creative antics. We adore Ned and are so happy to have him as part of our home. He is so sweet, exuberant, and playful. We were told how full of energy he was and how he loved stuffed animals. Now he and Eeyore, our other bassett, go on daily hour long walks together. He gets so excited he skips along...and he still has energy to burn! Ned made his way into the bed, enjoys 1 frosty paw treat a day, plays chase in the yard, gets lots of belly rubs, kisses, and stuffed toys (which he buries around the house). We try to make every day a quality day for this very special, deserving guy. A big thanks to every volunteer at NTBHR who gave Ned a second chance; for your generous hearts and sacrifices. And a very special thanks to Kim McMinn for serving as his foster mama. You’ve helped to make our family complete! Joel & Lamar
DUNKIN DONUT
Dunkin Donut has quickly adjusted to being part of the Bulick family. Dunkin likes to beg, he is underfoot with Mia (our 2 year old) when I do anything in the kitchen. She is trying to get a snack (all the time) and Dunkin is just waiting for me to drop something. He will sit on his hind legs and ask me to share.
CALLIE
I have been busy getting accustom to my new home and new family. My new family lives on a farm and I have been introduced to the cows and sheep. My family also includes two ferrets ( Morgana and Lanceslot) who like to play with me and my new sister (Lucy). Lucy and I like to sleep outside on nice days in the backyard in the leaves. The cat, Ms. Pus Pus likes to come and be with us when we are outdoors. Lucy and I get to wander in the garden when mom and dad are out planting plants or pruning trees. Because I'm a little overweight, my mom has put Lucy and me on a strict diet and we go for walks 2 to 3 times a day. Mom wants to get us in shape for the Shuffle this fall. Mom also bought a ramp so that I can go for car rides and some steps so that I can get on the couch and the bed (Whoo Hoo) I am so happy, mom and dad have taught Lucy and me how to sing a Happy Dance song, we sound pretty good.!
