EVE
Ruby is definitely our boys' dog. As my older son puts it, he and his brother are "T-bone steak" to Ruby and Stuart and I are just "asparagus" to her. She's settling in well. Still some accidents on the carpet. She'll drink water from anything, a left over of her surviving on the streets, I assume. She's learning manners. She's learning she needs to sit before coming into the house and not to jump up on people. Ruby's a big snuggler, which we all love. She's been a great addition to our family.
PEACHES
Princess Peaches has found her glass slipper. This little gal is a wonderful addition to our home. You'd think she'd been here forever- and she shall be! She is full of spunk and brings nothing but smiles as you watch her. Her little AAAOOORRROO is so sweet that it wins me over everytime. She is a great companion to her new brother, and he loves her back! She has us wrapped around her little paw. Thank you NTBHR for working with me and for finding the perfect fit to this family.
SCOOTER AND RUDY
We adopted Scooter (red bandana) and Rudy (blue bandana) in October, 2006 and they have been an absolute joy to have. Little did they know that their new mom is fan of 80’s Rock Star Rick Springfield and that they would meet him one day. That day came last Saturday. Rick was coming into town for a show at Billy Bob ’s and we were able to catch up with him at DFW. Rick is a huge supporter of animals and rescue animals. So I could not resist the opportunity to introduce him to our boys.
Rick and his band mates plopped right down on the floor with them and spent several minutes loving on them and asking about their backgrounds. And of course I mentioned North Texas Basset Rescue! Roger (the drummer in Rick’s band) has a Basset as well. My friend who was with us also attended the pre-show sound check and said that Rick was still talking about meeting the two rescue Bassets! What a fun day it was for all of us so much so that Rudy and Scooter slept the whole way home! Mary Johnson
GEORGE
I finally got George & Ziggy to pose for the camera. I wanted to send
PATRON
Hi everybody! Patron here! Sorry it took so long to post my first update, but Mom says I kinda got off to a rough start in my new home. I was readily accepted by all my brothers, and we have so much fun! And I'm such a sweetie to Mom and Dad! The problems started when Mom tried to be the Alpha dog, which I most certainly did not like. But Mom says that I've improved sooooo much and that she's proud of me. I still try to be in charge sometimes, but I'm starting to listen much better. I love chasing squirrels with my brothers and taking my other houndie brother's favorite toy and floating it in the fish pond! I'm also the absolute best howler! I taught my other hound brother how to howl, although he's not very good. He sounds more like a hound with a stomach ache. Mom has a hard time trying to get my pictures. I used to be afraid of the camera, I was trying to get away!! Then my last picture I finally let Mom take, although I wasn't happy about it. I'm much better about all that now, except now I can't stay still long enough for a picture.
A special thank you to foster Mom and Dad, Stacy and Tommy. You gave me another chance to be loved! And I sure am loved in my new home!! Patron Chaney ( Scoot and Carolyn Chaney )
BESSIE
I’m so happy with my new family. From day one I felt as if I were finally home after a really long vacation. I have overheard my humans say that they can’t imagine being without me now!
DILAN Ed and I want to thank you for letting us adopt Dusty [aka Dilan]. Not a day goes by that we do not appreciate all the wonderful work you do for Basset Hounds. We got Dusty in April and we have laughed every day. No matter what he does wrong, he just looks at us and we smile. That dog has the cutest face. The expressions are priceless. I am attaching pictures of Dusty and Pandy that we enclosed with our Christmas cards. My favorite one is the one looking out of the car because it shows what an imp he is. Pandy was a rescue dog also; but we got her from a private person who did not know what to do with an active Basset. We were at the Basset Shuffle and had a great time. It was so wonderful to see so many different dogs and how well behaved they were. The work that goes into the Shuffle must be tremendous as it was shown in how well run the events were. I even won two raffle prizes. We will be back next year. Sorry we did not get to see either of you there, but we met a lot of great Basset people. Thank you for all the great work you do. We are firm believers of all Rescue Operations and will continue to enlighten others about the good cause that you support. Ed and Jane Driscoll GINGER Hi friends, it’s your pal Ginger – or as my humans call me “Gingerbread Muffin” – I just wanted to “paws” and give you the skinny on how life’s been treating me since I was adopted. As you can see I love to snuggle up on a cold morning next to my big sister Daisy in the bed we sometimes let mom and dad sleep in – if they insist. But, when the afternoon sun comes shining through the windows you’ll find me basking in the glow. My family has spoiled me rotten and fattened me up a bit – they can’t resist my fat little puppy tummy! Daisy and I have the best time acting crazy and I think I’ve really put a new spring her step. She has also taught me a thing or two as well – like how to ask to go outside and how to give my family that look they can’t resist when it comes to leftovers. We go together like peas and carrots. Hope I’ll be seeing you all sometime soon, but until then keep your tail up and your nose to the ground!
SMOKEY
Lisa and I just wanted to send you a note to let you know that Smokey (Newman) is doing great. He has become the best of friends with Jake, and they pretty much do everything together, which is very sweet. Thank you to you and your son for all you did to help him through his treatments, we really love him… Here are some pics of Newman:(watching TV) Jon & Lisa Puttonen
CHLOE
My wife Pricila and I are the proud adoptive parents of Chloe a 2-3 year old red and white female Basset Hound. Greg Gresham was her foster parent. Since he left her with us on January 3, 2009 Chloe has adjusted very well to her new home. Our whole family have taken her into our hearts and we look forward to having her in our home as an honored member of the family for many years to come. Thank you all for your patience and assistance during the adoption process. We sincerely appreciate everything you do and we hope to see you all at future events. Bryan Jordan
HENRY
On October 1, 2008 I was informed about Henry had just been picked up. Kimberly from the North Texas Basset Hound Rescue informed me about the new arrival. I liked the way he looked and I knew he was the one? So I applied for him. We had to wait through his heartworms treatment and other vet treatment time. Then Henry had a small mishap, a torn ALC and the following surgery and recovery from surgery. We enjoyed getting to know his foster mom Judy as much as getting to know Henry with some in home visits at Judy’s. Over these last 2 weeks Henry has been GREAT having Henry here with us. We have traveled for the Christmas and had my mom with us for the complete time. Henry has bonded with all three of us. Larry ends up with Henry in his lap when he sits on the couch. Henry wants to play more than he is allowed until he is completely healed from his surgery.
Henry is just the right basset for us. We will go back to the Basset Hound Rescue when we get ready for the next dog. The experience gives us a great feeling for the dogs and the people involved. Many Thanks and May God Bless yall Ministry as you continue to rescue basset hounds. In Christ, Larry & Jean Meers (Henry’s new Mom & Dad)
JAKE REED Thought you might enjoy seeing some updated pictures of my little angel...Jake (aka Gillie). He went to Grandma's house with us for Thanksgiving and of course....everyone fell in love with him. My mom bought him some antlers...he wasn't to impressed with them but being the good boy he is...he kept them on long enough for me to get a photo. He still holds the title of "The Best Dog In The Whole World" I love him more and more each day and he pretty much has myself and Sharon Reed
BILLY RAY Toby has really taken to us as we have to him; he truly is the king of the house. He has found his voice running and playing outside (especially when he is ready to come in and claim the couch) J Our neighbors have two bassets next door and so they like to talk to one another. It seems like we have had Toby forever, in my eyes he was meant for our home. Our home was just waiting for Toby to come home. He is fully kennel trained and will go right into his home if I point at it and tell him to go to his house. He has grown to love his bed (just finding the right spot in our bedroom) which he really had to warm up to. He still doesn’t play much with his toys but he likes to sneak around and place them in weird places around the house which I think is hilarious! He is such a blessing to our home and lives. I think he loves us as much as we love him. His ears well the hair just won’t grow back but his belly is just fine. I am sure he misses his foster family too but seems to have adjusted very well to his new home. He is still learning to walk on a leash well but loves to go for long walks and is becoming less skiddish around others.

HOLLY AND GRACIE
Hi everyone, this is Holly from Longview checking in to let you know that I'm now known as Holly the Dolly, Chief Scout of the Ladybug Squirrel Patrol. I want to thank everyone at NTBHR who worked to get me out of the shelter in Longview and to my new home in Dallas. I am one happy girl now, plus I've gained a couple of pounds and my Vet says I'm tiny but perfect.
This is me and my sister Gracie (she's the big one and I'm the petite-but-mighty one), we have formed the Ladybug Squirrel Patrol and are dedicated to keeping the neighborhood safe from evil squirrels!! As Chief Scout, when we go out to walk, I go into Scan Mode, and stalk anything and everything that could possibly turn out to be a squirrel. (Mama says not to mention the tree roots or the leaves or the Sunday newspaper incident, they were all very understandable errors that could have happened to anyone.) My two cat brothers, Mr. Wolf and Mr. Peeper, are honorary members of the Ladybug Squirrel Patrol, they help me and Gracie keep the neighborhood safe from squirrels, too, but they said they won't officially join the Patrol because "Ladybugs" is a girly name. It's okay, Gracie and I have a great time terrorizing the squirrel population, my teeth got cleaned and I can chew cookies again, and all is right in my world. Love and kisses to everyone!! Holly the Dolly, always vigilant Chief Scout of the Ladybug Squirrel Patrol
SAVANNAH
Savannah is doing great. She loves going over to the grandparents Here are pictures of halloween and her Christmas.
WALDO
Hello everybody! I wanted to give a little update to all the nice people at the basset rescue who helped give me another chance. I was rescue #700. My name is
I know it's hard to believe because of how skinny I was, and my picture really doesn't show it, but I'm beginning to get a tad bit overweight. (Mom keeps telling me something about having a long back and having to watch my weight because of it, so last night I stole 3 pork chops that were a little too close to the edge of the countertop ).
Be sure to check out my picture. I'm a pretty handsome hound! The Chaney Family
