 <-    Happy Endings cont...   ->

Read about some of our recently adopted out basset hounds who are touching the lives of their new owners!

WENDY

wendyhappy1It's been a month since we adopted Wendy and we couldn't be happier.  As you can see

from the pictures she has adjusted pretty good and became one more member of the family.
Lola is very happy too.  She is enjoying her new playmate.  They are getting along pretty well.
Thanks to NTBHR and all volunteers.  Thank you so much to my Foster Parent Stacy!

Sincerely
Cavazos Family, Lola and Wendy Lou

BIRDIE

birdiehappy

This little girl is a joy to have around!  She is adjusting very, very well.  She absolutely adores Roscoe, preferring to be with him over all others in our household.  She is bonding with her people as well.  It is refreshing to have a "youngster" around.  She is curious about everything!!  She has made herself right at home here.  Birdie and Roscoe love to play together.

The Morse family loves this little girl so much and feels that she is a perfect match for our household and for Roscoe.  She is our fourth adoption from NTBHR.

Thanks so much for working so hard to find the perfect little doggie for us, especially considering that Roscoe is a bit persnickety and we are still recovering from our loss of Daisy.  We couldn't be more pleased!!!

Blessings to all the volunteers at NTBHR for your hard work and dedication.

It is difficult to think about what might have happened to our precious bassets without you!!

FLASH DANCER

flash_he

As you can see Flash has made himself right at home as one of the

family.  He likes to run and play in the backyard sometimes and

sometimes he just enjoys relaxing on the sofa.  He seems to have adjusted well,

almost as if he had been here forever. I think he had just been waiting

for us to bring him home. He likes lots of belly rubs and tons of hugs  and kisses, so he sure came to the right place!

CLYDE

 clydehe

Clyde has been such a joy in our lives.  When he first came into our homes as a foster, I just couldn’t believe how sick he was.  He was very malnourished and sickly.  For a time I couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t putting on any weight.  It turns out that he had leptospirosis.  So, after a couple of months of antibiotics he is such a different dog.  He has so much energy and spunk for a 6 yr. old Bassett.  He definitely keeps us laughing constantly.  Clyde and my other Bassett, Jackson gets along so well.  They act like brothers and play with each other all the time.  Even though we were foster failures, we know that we made the right decision to adopt Clyde.  We can’t imagine our lives without him.

DOC
Doc & Mabel

It's been over 2 years since we adopted Doc and we couldn't be happier. He is the best dog and we are so thankful to Joe Warner for thinking we would want an active, very big,and lovable basset. Fifteen months ago our vet rescued a female basset named Mabel. She'd been hit by a car and he found her in a local shelter. Here's a few pictures of Doc and Mabel. We're a happy family, as long as Doc remembers Mabel is the "boss."
Thanks again to NTBHR.

QUEEN ELIZABETH
Queen ElizabethQueen Elizabeth - affectionately addressed as Lizzie Rose. Queen Lizzie has agreed to take up residence in my humble castle, with demands, however. Two large, spacious, soft, fit for a Queen, baskets, from which she can howl demands of her Madam in Attendance (ME).
One basket in her Lounge Area and one basket in her spacious boudoir.. Queen Lizzie wishes to thank all humans in the NTBHR for saving her from certain demise, especially Madam in Attendance, Stacy, who so lovingly addressed all of her wants and wounds. I am blessed to have Queen Lizzie in my life, and hope she feels the same. " God (and NTBHR) saved the Queen. "

Thanks to all at NTBHR,
Claudia

LOLA RIDER f.k.a RENEE

Lola ReneeLola Renee 2
Attached are some pictures of Lola (fka Renee) and Ed and Lucy. Lola Rider works almost like LowRider, which she certainly is! She is doing
well-still scared of the storms but that just means that she and Lucy get to sleep with Mom in the spare room on stormy nights. She is my
veritable shadow and is a happy addition to our group of brown hounds with white faces.
Thanks ever so much
Liz Rider

CODY f.k.a. CHOPPER

Cody fka Chopper
Cody 2We had the pleasure of fostering Cody. During the first month we grew extremely close and we knew we couldn't let him leave our house so we joined the ever growing population of foster failures. Cody is a charming man and probably the funnest dog we have ever had. His eyes and his smile melt our hearts every day. He plays nonstop with the other kids. His favorite game is chase - as long as he is the one who is chased. He definitely likes to be the center of attention. He is very adaptable to what is going on. He can go from doing the Basset 500 to jumping right in bed to go to sleep. Cody is so special to us and we are thrilled to have him forever. Thanks NTBHR for saving another dog for our family!

DUKE f.k.a HUGO

Duke fka HugoDuke fka Hugo with family

As you can see from the attached photo, we are attached to Duke, and Duke is attached and at home with us. He has proven to be a great dog, He comes when called, unless there is something more interesting to do, but we are working with him.

We thank you and all the members of the North Texas Bassett Hound Rescue League for the work you do.

MILLIE f.k.a. KASSIE

Kassie 1Kassie 2

This is an update on our dear dog — Kassie (now known as Millie). We adopted Millie on July 11, 2006. She was rescued from the Keller Shelter and what a sad dog she was! We had just had to put our other adopted Basset to sleep in May and our lives seemed so lost and lonely.

Once we saw Kassie in the sad shape she was, there was no doubt that this was the dog for us. Must say she certainly needed some kind and loving care. She was so thin and was covered with tumors. Now, ten months later, our dear Millie, now weighing 45 lbs. --- her coat is so healthy --- and she is the love of our whole family. Millie settled right in and found she would rather sleep on the coach than in her doggy bed and the favorite place for her to be outside is on the picnic bench. We have five grandchildren and she is so gentle withal of them.

Both my husband and I want to thank you so much for bringing Millie into our lives. We both are retired now so we have the time to give this dear dog the love and care that she deserves.

Thank you again,

John & Lynn Cobb

JACK DANIELS (JACK) f.k.a MAJOR GENERAL

Major General Jack
My future's so bright I gotta wear shades

Howdy to all the fine folks at NTBR! I want to thank you all for rescuing me from the animal shelter and for helping me find my forever home! My new human folks are awesome. It took me a few days to get used to them but they provide me with food, water, toys, my very own chair and lots and lots of love! They also have a pool that I just love laying by! What more can a guy ask for? I have a new little sister, Teki. I love playing with her although I am having to teach her a few things. Like when it’s nap time! This little girl wants to play all the time. When you get older like me, you like to sleep more than play! I do love to chase her even if I can never catch her. It’s fun to run around playing tag! My new human brothers also like to play. I enjoy going to watch the younger one play baseball. I get a ton of attention at the ballpark! He also loves to show me off. Can you blame him? I am one big handsome hound!

I also have a new name now, Jack Daniels, but they call me Jack for short. I think it’s a perfect strong name for a strong guy like me. My favorite place to sleep is in between my new mom and dad. I always try to take dad’s side but I am learning that we all can fit in the bed!

Well, it’s my nap time again (have I mentioned that I love to sleep?). Once again, thank you all so much for taking such great care of me! I will see you at the shuffle!

Jack aka Major General

SCARLETT O'HAIR f.k.a. RITA WOOWORTH

Rita at homeritaplane

Rita Rooworth (now Scarlett O'Hair) has one of the most unique rescue stories. She was found wandering the streets in Texas before being picked up by the wonderful folks at the Rescue. She had been in foster care since January.

We lost our beloved Basset, Penelope last July at 14 years old and were looking for a rescue basset. However, we live north of Montreal in Quebec , Canada . We contacted the Canadian site , but could not find a match. I knew about the NTBHR through my friends at Bell Helicopter in Texas . I work for Bell in Canada . We discussed possibly adopting and Scarlett seemed to be a perfect match with our 7 year old Cocker, Laika. Now, how to get her from Texas to Montreal ....... What better way than the company corporate jet. She flew up with our executives traveling that day and spent the 3½ hour flight being spoiled. She was a little frightened when they landed and she put her little head out the door. I was waiting with the Customs Agent and when she stepped on the ground, they said "Welcome to Canada ". It only took her a few days to adjust to her new home and now it seems she has always been with us. We truly adore her and as you can see by the photos she now has a wonderful loving home where she will enjoy a happy life filled with love.

Thank you so much.

Love,

Vicki & Colin Stuart

RUDY & SCOOTER

Rudy Scooter and FamilyRudy and Scooter

Thought I would send in a little note about Rudy & Scooter. We adopted Rudy & Scooter last October after losing our beloved Rocky. It did not take long for the two to make themselves right at home. They are such a joy to have and put a smile on our face every day. Scooter has become a “shadow“ to my husband and Rudy always makes us laugh watching him fall asleep with his head hanging off the couch. We have definitely discovered that they love to go on walks and to let their nose lead the way but it’s very funny at home when Kitty plays chase and they can’t find her anywhere.
They have gone on several trips to see the grandparents but I think they most love their Sunday morning ride with Daddy to get a newspaper and fresh cup of coffee. These two are a pair and we can see how much they love each other and anyone who comes into their lives.

WALDO

Waldo HomeWaldo Home2

Waldo ( A. K. A. Hollywood Waldo ) :
Hello everybody! Just wanted to give a little update to all the nice people who helped me. I love my " forever home. " I am extremely spoiled rotten. Mom kisses me about 100 times a day, and I get lots of doggie cookies and playtime, too. My health is great. My new doctor took me off my seizure medicine 5 months ago, and I'm doing very well without it. My little seizures are very rare and hardly noticeable! I have quite an appetite and now have a little belly " pooch. " I have perfected the art of " countersurfing, " love to bite my Schnauzer brother's ears and use his back legs as chew toys. I love to chase birds, squirrels and cats. My favorite thing is to drink out of the Koi pond in the middle of the night and then come in with cold, wet ears and lips and kiss Mom and Dad. The anxiety I used to have is gone now.My Schnauzer brother has accepted me ( although he would never admit that ! ), and I have grown very protective of my blind and deaf Cocker Spaniel brother ( although we do squabble over the rawhides sometimes ! ). I got my new name " Hollywood " because I only chew things up that are of value, but I must say I've gotten much better at that. I'm still called " Waldo " and " Waldie " just as much, and I know all my names. I also love to play tug- of war with my Schnauzer brother and bury my Sylvester toy in Dad's pansies. I miss my foster Mom and brother, Bosco, but want them to know that I'm being treated like the king that I am and these people out here in the country have turned out to be very good bassett slaves!

CHLOE

chloe

Well, we may be the worst foster parents ever (seeing as how we just COULDN'T give up our little Chloe) but, I can promise you we are the BEST mommy & daddy ever! As you can see from the pic above, we've got ourselves quite a 'dogpile'! Lol! We got little Chloe on January 6, 2007 after she had been rescued from the side of the road here in Tyler and it sure didn't take us long to get attached! Darn those bassets!...They're just too easy to love!! =) Sarge (the one closest to me in the pic) gets along great with both Faith(Our first rescue we got from NTBHR in Oct. '05) and Chloe(the cutie closest to the camera), but he is a BIG TIME momma's boy(seeing as we've had him since he was born in Feb. '04) and is VERY lazy, so when we brought Chloe home, Faith was like YEA! Finally, someone with more energy who will chase me around this house and play with me outside!! They are the BEST of friends and bonded quicker than you would believe! By their third week together, they were inseperable! That's when we knew there was NO WAY our family would ever feel complete without Chloe being a part of it! They all get along great and we are SO happy! Instead of our bed, the three of them all sleep together on the couch now, I guess they needed more room to cuddle! Once again, A BIG THANK YOU to NTBHR for all of the wonderful things that you do! You have an incredible organization and we can't tell you how happy we are that you guys are out there helping all of these long-eared angels! Keep up the great work!

Lots of Love! -- John, Caitlyn, Sarge, Faith and Chloe Portwood =)

GABBY f.k.a. CHELSEA

gabby fka chelsea

I wanted to let you know "LIFE IS STILL GREAT!" I do have to tell you we changed Chelsea's name to "Gabby", and I hope you don't mind. We had already had a Chelsea and it was just too weird for us. Her and Cruella have most definitely fallen in love! This morning was the first time we heard her bark, actually it was more of a RRRRRRRRUUUUUUUFFFFFF! Three times at Cruella. They were having a blast. Gabby plays with her exactly like Chloe (previous NTBHR basset) did. Cruella has taught her to give kisses. She and I have shared the same pillow every night and she is a great snuggler. She does however, love to knock over the trash and counter surf, etc. We will work on those areas. She is learning to be spoiled like Cruella, and is still very cautious. She cries, cries, cries when someone leaves, and is tickled pink when they return. She is learning what the doorbell is.....she is soooo excited when someone comes to the door, but doesn't link the doorbell to company. She'll learn. I think she must have had a small girl in her life cause she really loves Taylor (10 year old daughter). Long story short, she is soooooo happy. I try to explain to her that this is as bad as it's gonna get. Happiness everyday!! We love her, Cru loves her and she loves us!!!

BENTLEY

Bentley Callie

Bentley is da man! He won the hearts of our family at our meet-n-greet! We adopted Bentley to entertain our 10 month old monster, I mean tri-color basset, Callie…they have since become inseparable. We knew Bentley would be a perfect fit when Callie immediately welcomed him into her domain. They play tug-of-war with toys and are constantly active. They run together, sit together, sleep together, eat together, even potty together. Just like a couple of girls rousing through the mall on a Saturday afternoon, minus the ponytails and Coach bags!
Bentley is debonair and has been a gentleman since we brought him home. He lets Callie jump all over him and bark at him nonstop, always making a concerted effort to oblige her every demand (and believe me she is Very demanding). He and Callie run up and down the stairs after the kitty and chase each other through the house all day! He helps us keep Callie calm and is becoming her life-partner all in the same bark. Bentley knows his place is with us (his pack) and he loves to sit in our laps and by our feet. He also sleeps with us from time to time but mostly enjoys snoozing on his big pouffie dog bed. His only request is that we love on him and provide lots of chewies for him to eat! We couldn’t have found a better fit for ourselves and our active Princess! Thanks to the NTBHR for bringing this sweet little man into our home!
Jeremy and Josh

MAE f.k.a. FERGIE

We adopted Fergie on Dec. 2. She'd had eye surgery about 2 weeks before we got her and she was having a reaction to it but after a month of medicine, her eye is now perfect. She's still basically a puppy and needs to learn not to chew everything that isn't tied down but she is learning. We had to change her name because our other animals were confused when we gave her commands so now she is Mae. She and her "big brother" Snowy (a 15lb Westie!) get along wonderfully and have a lot of fun playing. Snowy needed a friend and Mae is great for him. Their favorite games are tug of war and "eat my face." Mae can almost fit Snowy's head in her mouth and he's good about telling her when he's had enough "fun"! We love having Mae. She is an absolutely lovely dog and her previous owner can not know what he/she is missing. Mae is a little afraid of men other than her new Daddy, especially if they are wearing hats or are very tall, so we're careful to give her attention when someone new comes to the house. The only growl we've heard from her is when a large man walked into the den. She is not aggressive, although she loves to chase the cat. He is just starting to play with her. Today I found him lying on his back, playfully swatting at Mae while she stood over him, poking him with her nose. Our camera battery died so I can't send a picture but I will soon. We love having Mae and can't wait until this year's Shuffle!

HOOCH

hooch hoss and dolly

Just a note to let you know that Hooch is doing great. He is so wonderful.

He just lays around all day and is such a good boy. Our Hoss (the other basset hound) passed away in October and Hooch was a bit disturbed for a few weeks. Hoss had some surgery for tumors and didn't make it. Just days before that we had two puppies left on our doorstep and they moved in with us. Turned out they were about 5 months old. We found a home for one right away but the other stayed with us and after Hoss passed we thought it was meant to be. The puppy's name is Max. Hooch and Max play all the time. In fact, Dolly and Hooch tag-team play with Max. They get tired and tell the other to come in and take over. Lately, we have been giving each dog a pig ear to chew on. Max tries to take the pig ears away from Hooch and Dolly (the Lab). Hooch will put the pig ear on the ground and act like he's walking away and just as Max starts toward the pig ear, Hooch will just scream out a bark and keep going as if to say "stay away from my treat". Hooch chases Max around the living room. Max will run out to the front room and come around in the other entry way. Hooch will chase him out one way and the meander over to the other doorway and wait there for Max to come around and just bark at him. They are good friends and now everyone has someone to play with.

Hooch loves to run outside and bark at everyone walking by. Plus, he has a regular barking contest with the three dogs across the street. During this icy weather, he would go out and no one would be outside and he would just bark once and wait for some distant dog to bark back. One day two families came around the block and the little ones ran up to our fence looking for Hooch. He was inside and I said "the dogs are inside, do you want me to let them out" and the Mom said "would you please. My boys love that Basset Hound". They know Hooch is just talking to them when he's barking.
I was just looking at the pictures you sent back in Sept 2005 (I'm going to put them in a new frame my sister gave us for Christmas that has several spots for photos and then says "Woof" on the frame) and just thought I would give you an update. We were afraid to come to the Shuffle last year for fear we would come home with another dog but we will be there in 2007. Let the others know about Hoss. He was a good dog but the cancer got him and he's in basset heaven now.

LACEY (updated)

Lacy the Queen

I  wanted to show you Lacy's new portrait.  You can tell what her status is here.  I made the "frosty paws" and she loves them.  I don't give them to her every day...every other day. But she knows what I am getting when I open the freezer.  Arroooo!
Joe

lacey at joesLacey & Toby

The coolest thing is her tail is raising higher and higher when she wags. She started playing "rough",
not teeth bared but soft bites and grrrrs, and running up and down the stairs and around the furniture, dog
play. She does, however, bury her treats around...so you could sit down and get a goose from a bone under
the seat cushion! She also likes sleeping under the covers with her head on a pillow. I am afraid she is
getting spoiled too fast. Yep, we needed her like she needed us. And, we are all enjoying each other!

ABIGAIL

Abigailabigail2

My husband and I were thrilled to receive Abigail in March. It was love at first sight for us and our other Basset, Saffy. Everything so far has been wonderful and I wanted to send you a couple of pictures so you can see for your selves.

Thank you for helping us to complete our family!

BARNEY RUBBLE
Barney
“Well, I gotta tell ya, I think I’ve got it made. I don’t remember much about my previous life, but ever
since NTBR got me, I’ve been treated like I’m somethin’ pretty special! My foster Mom didn’t really
want to let me go (can’t blame her — I am one Handsome Dude!) but she knew I was going to a wonderful new
home with lots of love, play time, food, walks in the woods, a big back yard….and since I’m an only child at
the moment — I get all the toys and attention! I’ve even got my own personal lounge chair on the back
porch! Yeah, life is pretty good for this hound dog! I’ve made myself right at home and I think I’ll keep
my people — they know how to treat Bassets! Thanks NTBR for finding me my forever home!!”

ARLENE
Arlene2Arlene
It has been 10 days now since we got Arlene and she is wonderful. She is gorgeous and so sweet. She loves to run and play with everyone. Pedro is
getting used to her more and more each day. We are thinking about a new name for her.

Arlene has been sleeping with her new (human) sister and is a bed hog! She has been very good and only had a couple of accidents in the house. She
loves to run laps in the backyard and she is learning to bark again with Pedro's help. She gets to go to the nearby park almost everyday for walks.
Her doctor says she can go jogging too, so she will make a perfect partner for me since we both have short legs. She sometimes lays with her belly flat on the ground and her legs sticking out in back. It is pretty funny. She also lays on her back for her belly rubs. She isn't crazy about car rides. I think she is a little unsure of
what will happen, but we are working on that. She is gets lots of treats and is very comfortable.

When Grandma and Grandpa came to see her she jumped right into Grandma's lap! Since she can't have her own dog this made her immediately fall in love
with Arlene. I can't wait to see Arlene blossom as a part of our family and all the fun we are going to have for many years.

Thank you so much to the Basset Hound rescue and all the volunteers. Thank you for letting us be a family for Arlene. She will enjoy a very good life
with us. We will stay up to date and see you at the shuffle!

Thanks
Brad, Renee, Cassie and Katie (Pedro too)

BUPPS f.k.a. ELOISE
bupps

My Happy Ending by Bupps
I just thought you might like to hear from me, Bupps (AKA Eloise), one the youngest bassets to be adopted out by NTBHR. I'm doing quite well thank you very much. Considering me and me brudder were dumped at about 8 weeks of age I'm doing great!!! I hear my brudder Emmit is living the large in Ft Worth too!! I get all the love, food, treats, toys, etc., every gorgeous girl deserves and expects. As you can see by my photo I've turned out to be quite a beauty...runway beautiful if you please!! I have learned that sitting up on my basset butt is good for a treat EVERYTIME! My every whim is indulged straight away. If it's not I become VERY vocal. Ya see slaves need to be "on call" at all times and should respond quickly or suffer the consequences!
Now about my personal castle. It seems I never had to pack my bags to get to my 'furever' family. I was living there all along, imagine that!! My foster mom just could NOT give me up to anyone!! I gave her the "golden eyes" look and there was no other choice but stay with her and be treated to a never ending life of pampering and luxury. My pal Doozee, another adopted basset from NTBHR, will play with me but not as often as I would like (she's a bit senior ya know). I get to off to visit with folks sometimes, but most of the time I just get to see the neighborhood dogs and kids too. I just love showing everyone my golden eyes!! Sometimes we have another foster stay with us and we play and play until we are too pooped to play anymore! Then they find the perfect family and move away. Life can be very good...thanks to the folks that do rescues of us houndies!!

BOGIE
bogie
Hi! My name is Bogart (Bogie), I came to live with the Moerbes in June.

I noticed right away, that there were 2 humans and only 1 Basset Hound, (not a good thing). So I sat out to make them into foster failures.

The other Basset resident, Moses, seemed to belong to the lady, so I set out to win the man over. I sat by him, and looked up at him and gave him “the look”. I would sleep next to him on the couch. (I was so good). Hehe

Then they decided they had to add me to the family, so then Moses sat out to teach me how to be a regal Basset Hound, and what behaviors were good and those I should refrain from. (I think Moses forgot what it is like to be young).

Long story short, I won — I am now a member of the Moerbe family. I am no longer shy (except when people come over). I have won over Blue, the Catahoula/Aussie mix, he will play with me now. Then there is Mattie and Daisy and Harriett, they all like to play with me too, especially Daisy. Heck, I even had Moses playing. Then one of Moses’ foster voodoo dogs came to live here again, and when she is not hiding under the chair, I can get her to play too. (I have a lot of charm you know). And my cousin, Fred, comes to live here on weekends when his mom works. And we have a great time, we play almost non stop.

I have sampled a lot of good things here — I am learning how to make calls on the cell phone, trying to learn to change the channel to Animal Planet, working on the coffee tables they need a designer look. I am an excellent shredder of paper. I do have some good qualities, mainly cuteness.

Anyway, if any of you foster dogs need lessons on how to make your humans become foster failures e-mail me and I will give you tips. My dad loves me — they all love me. (Whats not to love!!).

WILLOW
Willow 2
We were lucky enough to become Willow's forever parents on June 11, 2006. She was welcomed into our family with open paws. She immediately clicked with Johnny. Angie and Billy came around soon afterwards. It has been great seeing her build relationships with the whole family.
Willow has added more joy and laughter to our house. Her energy has kept everyone well entertained. She loves to play. She chases her brothers and sisters until she wears them out. At that point she grabs a toy and starts ripping out the stuffing to get to the treasured squeaker. Not only does she become more vocal each day, but she also becomes more affectionate. Once she is worn out she’ll lay down on the couch to snuggle. She also loves to cuddle when it is time to sleep.
Thank you North Texas Basset Hound Rescue for bringing this beautiful angel into our lives.

FLASH f.k.a. WILLY WONKA

Willy Wonka

We just wanted to say thank you again for sending the package to Flash. We are really enjoying his companionship - he's part of the family now. He's a wonderful, wonderful dog with so much energy and heart. We just love him so much!

We hope you received our thank you card too. We are so grateful for the NTBHR.
Thanks again for everything!

BETSY ROSE f.k.a. MISS FABULOUS

Hi all at NTBHR!

Just want to give you an update on Betsy Rose formerly known as Miss Fabulous. Betsy Rose was found by you wandering the streets of downtown Ft. Worth in early 2004. I adopted her in July the same year if memory serves me correctly.

Betsy Rose is thriving and has grown to be a voluptuous girl! She is soooo sweet. Betsy Rose loves to ride in the car, no matter where as long as I'm with her. She and her brother Basset hound, Bosco are wonderful together. They play chase at least once a day. I can go on and on about how lucky I am to have adopted her but I won't. I've attached pictures instead so you can see for yourself.

Thanks again to all of you that do great work for the delightful furry kids!!!

AUGUSTUS (AUGGIE)

I just wanted to give you an update on our little guy. He's adjusting just fine, He is dearly loved by all. He loves to show us his undercarriage, he is very proud of himself. He goes "upside down" as i call it all the time and he stays that way for long periods of time, often times sleeping like that most of the night. No modesty whatsoever.

He has his daily rituals already. After we get him up in the morning which takes some time by the way, (He is slow to get moving in the AM) then out side to take care of business. Once he's done with that, he makes a beeline for the girls rooms where he promptly jumps on the bed between them and washes their faces thoroughly. We get him to the dog park occasionally, but if not he gets walked every day. He has learned to give us his paw, and still does his prayers. He will also "sleep" on command or any other time for that matter. I'm working on "do dishes" or "vacuum, vacuum" ............he's not biting on those,,,he's no dummy, that dog.
His other habits include running like hell through the house for about 15-20 minutes, followed by hours of sleep. Just like an infant. He loves his squeaky toys, most of which he has destroyed by surgically removing their "squeakers". Must be a love hate relationship i guess. He still digs up flowers and bushes. I hope he outgrows this. I think he thinks it is a game because every time he digs up the planters, i go out and put the soil back. He then feels like he has to start the process all over again.....He's winning the game.

BULLET

Bullet is very good company for me and it's such a delight to have him greet me when I come home. All visitors are greeted with lots of tail wagging sometimes a welcoming bark too. He is just the sweetest most loving hound with a face to match! He is very laid back and makes a great afternoon naptime buddy. He really enjoys his deep sleep nap, and sometimes he sleeps so sound hard, he's difficult to wake! He is well behaved and quite good company for a stroll in the park or a ride in the car. Bullet is never bothered by the other dogs jumping around and barking their heads off, he seems to find their behavior amusing. Of course a treat may be his motivation for those good manners. Thank you NTBHR for my new best friend, I am so happy to have him with me.

ODIE AND DAISY MAE

Daisy and Odie are a real joy. Odie has taken Kenny on as her favorite and Daisy is my baby. Odie just loves to bark at the longhorns through the fence. She pals around with our great dane, Clarence, and loves to be in the yard sunbathing beside him. Daisy is a talker. She and I converse quite regularily while she wants to have her tummy rubbed. And she finally jumped on the den sofa to sleep. Both are loosing weight and look so very good.

NORA

FAITH

Hi! We're the Portwoods & we were lucky enough to gain a new family member on October 8, 2005! Faith is an absolute sweetheart! Not only is she beautiful...she has such an adorable personality too! She's very outspoken...it's almost like she's actually talking sometimes! She loves to chase her new brother Sarge around and play toss & catch with her raw-hides. She has this cute little snore when she sleeps...just like her "Daddy". She loves to cuddle and give kisses & she makes this "squeaky wheel" noise when she's really excited or if she wants some attention. Sarge is getting used to "sharing the spotlight" now & really likes his new sister! We would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to NTBHR for selecting us as Faith's forever family & to Scout, Theresa and Jeff Douglas for providing her with such a loving foster home!!
Love -- John, Caitlyn, Sarge & Faith Portwood =)
P.S.: If anyone would like to get to know Sarge & Faith more and to see some more pics of them...you can go to www.dogster.com and view their profiles! =)

DAISY MAE

We adopted Daisy Mae a few months ago and absolutely adore her. She is so gentle and sweet. Her big brother, Roscoe, adopted 6 years ago, loves being her protector and playmate. Daisy, formerly dubbed "the escape artist", has never once tried to get out. She follows her people from room to room as if she's afraid of being abandoned again. How anyone could ignore this adorable girl is beyond me. Thank you NTBR for giving us our SECOND successful adoption. Rosce and Daisy Mae are truly a blessing to have as a part of our family.

Kim, Debbie, Ashley, and Paige Morse

PS. Just a word about the picture…Daisy is the yellow and white basset, Roscoe, our resident howler, is the large black basset.

Doc

We adopted Doc almost two weeks ago. This is a picture of our youngest son, Matthew and Doc. When Matthew was young, he used to introduce himself like this: "Hi, my name is Matthew and I don't have a dog." Well, with Doc's addition to our family, he can't say that any longer!
We never realized how active and playful a basset can be! Doc loves to run laps in our backyard(there's a neighbor's german shepard he can bark at). He loves to walk, play, wrestle and he is one friendly, curious bundle of energy. Doc is a beautiful dog and we thank NTBHR for putting us together.

Tracker

Well Tracker has been living a very nice life, as you can see, since we adopted him in 2000. He was only 4 when we got him and we were his 3rd home, the past two had given him up 2 years after they got him. At his 2 year point with us, he wouldn't even get in the car. He quickly got over that and realized he is not going anywhere. He will only eat his food if it is made exactly the way he wants, usually with beef or salmon. While the beginning of his life was hard on him he has become very accustomed to finer things like filets, especially from Del Frisco's, but he deserves it! He has taken over the leather lazy boy and is nice enough to let people use it from time to time and he is lifted in to bed every night at his request! He loves the pool, this float was bought especially for him. He will get in your lap, float around, cool off. and let you know when he is ready to get out! He also is sure that the pool is a giant water bowl made just for him! Tracker is one of a kind and we are glad he decided to keep us!!!!!!

P.S. His sister, Chloe the basset, even likes him, but she doesn't like to let him know, until she is ready to play!

PARKER

Parker, Parks, Parky, Parkman, has quickly become the center of hugs and kisses at our house these days. After losing our beloved Bentley "Bubba", a cocker spaniel of almost 11 years, we went through the usual, "will we ever love again agony". We can not begin to tell you how well Parker fits into this family, and how much he already means to all of us! Our children are almost 3 and 11 months, and although they do love him, it is sometimes with the pure love that only toddlers can give, and most dogs don't appreciate, except for Parker! He is easy-going, and just happy to get love from any member of his family. We thank God every day for the wonderful people at North Texas Basset Rescue. Were it not for all of your hard work and dedication to this beautiful breed, we would not have our beloved Parker. I feel as though I could fill volumes on his adorable antics and daily amusements, but I wanted to just make sure I focused my efforts on the gratitude we have for NTBHR, for the hard work you do everyday to give deserving dogs a second chance, and families like ours a new member to love. We feel like we were meant to have Parker, and for him to have us. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough, so we'll add in a sloppy AROOOF from Parker, and send you some pictures often, perhaps to remind you that all the hard work you do does pay off. Certainly when you look into the eyes of my family, and those of our precious Parker!

With love and thanks -

Kevin, Michelle, Blake, Brooke, and Parker

MOSES fka DROOPY

Moses is telling me to tell everyone "hi" and that this house is full of strange critters. I have my own bed, and a new food bowl, different food, but my new "mom" is going to try to get me some Beef N'More today to mix in, so I can get used to this new food. I like to explore upstairs, only I can't come down the stairs by myself, its a little intimidating to come down. Harriett says I will get used to it though. Mattie won't let me on the big bed, and I thought she loved me. Oh well, there is always Daisy and Harriett. Blue is going to teach me to watch for the postman, he said it lots of fun to try to beat him to the back of the house - and bark at him there too. You can come and see me and bring my other friends sometime. I miss you and my friends, but I know this is my forever home and its good too. I have some new friends on the other side of the fence, they come over once in a while and we all get to go to Julios, (I don't think I have been there yet). Mollie and Savanah and Duke and Tinker said its fun, in the fall they have a fire and we even get to eat out back there. (Duke said they don't feed you, you have to grab and run, sounds like fun to me.) I love you for all you did for me, I will never forget you.

Moses and I have had a wonderful day, what with the yucky weather and all, We have been lounging on the couch, under a blanket, munching peanut butter cookies and watching Hairspray. He has been so lovey today.  Practically getting in my lap (hmmm, perhaps its the cookies)

He did get up and go to see what Vic had for lunch, and in the process his tail was hitting Mattie in the face, she was cute, put her paws up and turned her back so his tail would not hit her anymore.

Moses is just so wonderful.  I will forever be grateful for letting us adopt him.  He didn't even snap at me under the covers when I would pat him.  (Thats a first), again, probably the cookies.  Who would have ever thought that the way to a BH's heart is peanut butter .
Love,
Droopy a/k/a Mongo a/k/a Moses

Fredd III's Happy Ending

I adopted Fred lll in 2002 from North Texas Basset Rescue when he was 2 years, he is about 5 years old now. I had another basset for 12 years named Rudy. She died from Congestive heart failure in late 2001. A few months later, she came to me in my dreams and told me that it was time for me to get a new basset and that I should adopt one from a rescue. The next morning, I went on the internet and found NTBR and the rest is history.

I have volunteered with them as well as attend the Shuffle each year with Fred.

He is my best friend and I cannot imagine a night without him nosing under the covers and snuggling right next to me. He is quite the ladies man in my apartment complex and loves to cruise cute girl dogs with his neighbor and buddy Barney (half black lab/basset with head as basset and body of lab). Fred's personality is awesome and I look forward to adopting more bassets once I own a home with a back yard.

Frannie's Happy Ending

Our Maggie (formerly known as, Frannie) is just amazing. By the second day with our family she acted like she has always lived here, lying sprawled on her back snoozing on the couch. She's been amazing with our two daughters, (Riley 4 1/2, Shelby 2). She lets them lay on top on her and drag her around. This might be due to the fact that they are very generous with snacks. She loves to play, but she's also content to sleep half the day. We just love her. We couldn't be more pleased with the adoption process, our Basset rescuers, Donna and Joe, and the sweet, loving dog that completed our family. It was an experience we would highly recommend.

Thanks for our Maggie!

Bo's Happy Ending

We adopted Flash Gordon (Bo) about 2 years ago. As you can see he is quite spoiled! I just wanted to thank you guys. I could not imagine my life without my "floppy eared" buddy. I have 3 children and he is so good with them. He actually plays hide and seek with my kids! You guys do a great thing and I will always be grateful to you for bringing Bo into our family.

Tex's Happy Ending

We have had our Dillard, a 14 year old basset since he was about 10 months old. Last year, Dillard lost his life-long companion, our 17 year old Lhasa. Dillard was very depressed and began to experience separation anxiety after our Lhasa died, so we quickly moved to get him another companion. We adopted Ranger (Daisy to us) in July last year. Dillard got over his separation anxiety, but he and Daisy were not the best of friends. I think it is fair to say they kept their distance from one another and were both competing to be king/queen of the house. So, we were very skeptical about introducing a 3rd basset, when Tex's foster mom told us she had a dog that she just knew belonged in our house. We met Tex anyway and fell absolutely in love with him. We invited him over for a trial visit one afternoon in early January and never let him leave. Best of all, he turned out to be the ultimate peacemaker and now Daisy and Dillard have no problems between the two of them. Daisy in particular loves to play with Tex and they wrestle for hours. Dillard is too old to wrestle, but he stands at the sidelines and pretends he's engaged. Now the hardest thing in our lives is figuring out how to pet 3 dogs with 2 hands. Our happy ending picture is all about solving that problem. That's old Dillard on the left, happy Daisy on Bill's shoulder and young Tex on the right.

We couldn't be happier with our little family of bassets and we know now that we'll always have at least 2 (or more) of them. Thanks for giving us the opportunity!

Wednesday (Lindsey)

We didn't know what our home life was missing, until we adopted Lindsey (f/k/a Wednesday). We have had so much fun learning about each other and getting to know each other's personalities and characteristics. She has adapted to our schedule and home very well. We get to spoil her a lot and she seems to appreciate all of it. We truly feel that she is as happy with us as we are with her. Her love, affection and kisses are so great and I can't imagine life without her. North Texas Basset Rescue's Rep, Joe, was very helpful in preparing us with little details about what to expect. I'm sure she would love for you to see her pictures to let you know all about her new home.

PRINCE CHARLES DANIEL's Happy Ending

A big thank you goes out to part of your team Donna and Joe, for helping us find the most perfect companion…Charlie. We were searching for a loving dog that could get along with company and children; we got more than we were expecting. From the minute Charlie walked into our house and licked me at our first greeting, I knew it was love at first sight. Charlie holds a special place in our hearts that cannot be described. He is our friend, our alarm clock, our exercise trainer, our family; and we adore him. He is definitely a "ladies man" whom I love and boy does he know it. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our lives with a rescued Basset for he has brought more joy to our home than we ever expected.
