Meet the humans

NTBHR is an ALL-VOLUNTEER Organization, who are Basset owners, Basset lovers and Basset slaves!  Because NTBHR was originally formed under the Basset Hound Club of Fort Worth under the AKC, our roots go deep into the origin of the Basset Hound, with deep respect for the quality of the breed, and bring a great deal of knowledge to the rescue.

CHRISTY SLACK,  PRESIDENT

Christy began volunteering for NTBHR in May 2011. As President, Christy oversees the intake of Basset Hounds, oversees Medical needs of all the dogs while in Foster Care, and supervises the Adoption and Foster Committees. She also serves as co-chair on the Financial Compliance Committee.

Her Bassets currently are Belle (pictured), approx. 10 yrs, and Gar, age 2. Previously she had Bentley for 13 years, Harley for 11 years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SARAH GUNDERSON, TREASURER/DIRECTOR

Sarah began working with NTBHR in 2009, but has been a volunteer and supporter for many years. She has worked on four Bone Soiree’ fund raisers and joined our Board of Directors in 2012 as Treasurer. Sarah has had basset hounds her whole life, since her first birthday! Currently she has 3 resident Bassets: Maggie (8), Buddy (7), Abby (7). An active foster parent she has fostered numerous basset hounds, including special needs bassets. She has had 2 other Bassets in the past, Boswell and Bowser.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NICOLE WILLINGHAM, VICE PRESIDENT/ASSISTANT  TREASURER

Nicole has been a Basset Hound owner since 2010, pictured with Lucy and Hank.  After Hank passed away, she decided to foster for NTBHR, and has since fostered over 7 Basset Hounds, and (and too many other breed to list!) Nicole is the Assistant Treasurer, manages our Meet Up Groups, and brings enthusiasm and creativity to the team.

Nicole lives with her husband and Basset Hounds Lucy and Heidi. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CHRISTIE GALLAHER, DIRECTOR/VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Christie Gallaher has had basset hounds since the early 1980's when her family got a basset puppy (Sherry) just before Christie started kindergarten. Sherry was Christie’s faithful pet and friend for the next 17 years. Christie’s love for basset hounds has continued since the first day she met Sherry. She and her husband, Troy, became fosters for NTBHR in January, 2016. Resident hounds at the Gallaher home include Rikki, Ethel, and rescued bloodhound, Tallulah Belle. Also pictured here is their 4th foster, June. Lucy crossed the Rainbow Bridge in July, 2015, joining Christie’s previous bassets Sherry and Rebel. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JENNIFER NICEWANDER, DIRECTOR/MEDICAL DIRECTOR/MEMBERSHIP CHAIR

Jennifer adopted her first basset hound, Shorty, in 2011 and began fostering for NTBHR, but sadly he passed away 2 years later. She has since adopted Maxwell, and fostered 8 basset hounds.  Jennifer has used her organizational skills with the silent auction at the Bone Soiree, organized the games for the Shuffle for the past two years, tracks all the medical treatments for our dogs in foster care, and Manages the Basset Friends Forever Monthly donor program.
