THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Linus was our original hound adopted from NTBHR in the spring of 2008, and we had the good fortune to have him in our lives as both a young hound and a senior until sadly we said our final goodbye on February 19, 2019. We knew that day was coming, as that was part of the price of having a truly loyal and loving hound in our home, but it doesn’t ever make it easier. You graciously shared your home and bonded with two other great hounds we adopted after your arrival, Daisey in 2009 and Arnold in 2013. You had to see them go to the Rainbow Bridge ahead of you, but we take comfort in knowing they are there, along with Jason, to greet you. Your favorite resting place on the bed misses you, and the back yard isn’t quite the same without you in it, but we accepted the trust you put in us to decide when it was time. Farewell only for now Linus, and enjoy meeting Jason and seeing Daisey and Arnold again. We love you and say thank you for being here for us all as long as you were. Robyn and Barry Vercoe 
Good morning, I’m sad to report that our Mr. Duke passed during the night after a long and fun life with us. We fostered and adopted him from the group around 2005 when our other basset fell in love with him. They were just inseparable during their time together. About 5 years ago, we lost her to cancer and considered fostering again, but Duke didn’t grieve the way Winnie did. As a result, we became a one dog family for many years. However, earlier this year, we could tell he needed a friend and adopted another dog. Her vigor breathed life into him for many months but sadly, he began to take a downturn with multiple issues. Last night he left us to live in peace and pain free. RIP Duke!
Calli 607
We lost our Matriarch Calli Rescue # 607 , this last Tuesday she passed over the Rainbow Bridge. She had us for 14 years, she was the Queen of the Pritchett clan. She saw several rescue Bassets come and pass over the bridge. She won a Red ribbon at one of the shuffles, she wore a pointy hat with a scarf, a tu tu, and a red bow on her behind that wiggled when she walked. She would chase squirrels with our other Bassets. She had gone almost completely deaf and had been blind for over a year. She bumped into everything , but it never hindered her from doing what she wanted. She was in hospice type care for a while, with all of her health issues, she was still our Calli. When she got to the end of the Rainbow Bridge she was greeted by Buddy, Oscar, Bubba, Cassie, Spanky and Fred, now they can all run pain free and enjoy themselves. She left a huge hole in our hearts, as big as the love that she gave us, her memories will help us heal. Thank You to North Texas Bassett Hound rescue, y’all helped bring 7 Bassets to us, we have loved every one of them.
Ellie Mae 1125
Our sweet Ellie Mae, adopted from yall in Dallas in 2011, passed away this past weekend at the young at heart age of 13. We miss her terribly. 
Penelope was an awesome dog. I couldn't have raised a better puppy and she was 7 when we got her. She was the most well behaved Basset I've ever had and fit into our family's routine immediately after arriving in our home. She was so easy to own, good on and off the leash and never went flat basset on a walk. She knew her special purpose and loved hunting rabbits. She loved to go camping and was always up for a new adventure (after an air conditioned nap of course). We took her to a couple barn hunts and she always found the prey. Julie and I both enjoyed her so much. She had some weird quirks. She only howled 3 times the whole time we had her and it was in her sleep. She also didn't like to be held or petted too much and acted more like a cat in that regard. She would however if left to her own devices come and sit at your feet with just her butt touching your foot. That was her affection and we were always glad to have it. We're really going to miss our girl and I hope the 3 years she had with us were her best days ever. Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
